Amazing advice guys! Can’t wait to implement some of these tips… After relying on my phone alarm while travelling recently, I’m buzzin’ to get the oldschool alarm clock back out again! having a tech free start to the day makes such a difference for me…
Going to start leaving my phone behind while exercising mindfully on my lunch break again which used to greatly reduce my stress levels…
I think it might be time to finally block the gmail app after 6pm each day also. Thanks guys!

Thanks Ben, I particularly like your idea to block your gmail app after 6pm … using technology to help you manage technology. Nice!

Love this Mark! Some badly needed tips and reminders here.
I used to leave my phone at home while doing my weekly shop every Sunday. it gave me such a sense of freedom and calmness for at least an hour each week. Don’t know why I stopped doing it. Can’t wait to get back to it and build more tech free time into my life. Thank you for sharing!

This is one of best videos I have seen on how best to use technology.

Like Mark I am reluctant to get a further device but how simple just to take your work email off your phone. I used to be in the habit of checking emails only 3 times a day but I had slipped during Covid; back to that!

I think the big message is that we don’t live in a digital bubble; our digital behaviour really affects others so directly; so it’s great to think my small changes could be a positive for someone else.

    Thank you both.

Exactly Liosa, don’t cause bubble trouble. I love it!

Really helpful advice especially in the world of theatre and film… I think the comment about setting boundaries giving other people permission to do the same is useful in those fields of work. People in the arts have pressure to appear constantly inspired and available.

I found the idea of leaving the phone at home whilst out walking to be a great idea! Tough to do but definitely something to get used to. A really useful video.
    Thanks so much

Thanks Mark, really useful tips and reminders. Love the time boxes and the not using your phone as your alarm clock, will definitely be doing this.

Great reminders in here Mark Mulligan. I previously had the same thoughts to you in regards to not taking the mobile phone out with me on walks. Now I take an old mobile without a sim which still allows me to take photos while I’m out and also listen to music I’ve already downloaded.

Love it Mark Mulligan & Laura, thank you. I think there are some really useful hints & tips here. I heard something rather interesting today around this: instead of work/life balance, we should look for work/life integration; made me think!

Watching this talk was very timely.
I was getting annoyed at a colleague who would ping me on Teams in the evening ( sometimes even at midnight). I always knew she had a different work pattern as she has children but I was getting annoyed as I was thinking she was not respecting my personal time.
Then I started to change my status on Teams at the end of my work day after watching this video…. it is working a treat , gives a clear message I am not available for work.
Now just need to crack the getting away from the screen during the working day
    Thanks for brilliant suggestions
