I love how Sian balances being crystal clear in what she wants from her career … whilst at the same time feeling that she is not that important.
It’s great to see how a clarity of intention without an attachment to the outcome can lead to sustained happiness.

Sian is truly wonderful. She’s so beautifully human – overcoming a set back right now and holding that disappointment at the same time as a zest for life and what is ahead. I love that her pilates teacher makes her work for it!

That was brilliant – she’s hard as nails! Less introspective than rigorously self-aware, she seems to strike a really supportive balance between making sure that her body is as strong as it can be and interrogating and challenging herself intellectually, making sure she’s as fit for whatever she desires as her purpose as she can possibly be.
Being fit … both mentally and physical for whatever life throws at you makes it so much easier to bounce back from life’s inevitable challenges. What I love about Sian’s approach is the realisation that it’s much easier to stay fit that it is to get fit.
This is quite a deep thing to get into but I studied philosophy so I’m used to looking strange and pretentious.
For context, I don’t believe in the soul.
I’m a materialist – which means that I think that what we may refer to as the soul or the mind or sentience or consciousness is just an emergent property of the evolving responsive complexity of our brains. Neurons and synapses and electrical impulses – all just basic matter but behaving in wonderful ways. What this implies is that the mind/soul is utterly reliant on and limited by the lifespan of actual physical matter – the body.
Therefore although I think that we need to do things to stimulate our thoughts and challenge our intelligence, if we don’t challenge our bodies, it has an impact on our resilience and our ability to endure when things aren’t perhaps going entirely our way.
What a fantastic video! I love that Sian is dedicated to herself without being selfish or self centered. Her message to stay true to what you really want to do but learning through the trials and tribulations is of such value. More importantly so because at this stage in her journey she is happy! and lives that happiness daily like we are all aiming to do! Well done Mark and Sian for such an uplifting clip!

I love her description of the mindset of resilience, and also the way she uses the word “corroded”, “that would be the big danger” because of all the destructive emotions entailed.
So true Oriana, when things are not going well for us one of the most corroding things you can do is allow yourself to be envious of others.

A great video – Sian is of a similar era to myself and it was wonderful to hear her speak of her upbringing of ‘not being important’ which I shared. I hope my resilience is similar to hers but I also share with her the difficulty in saying no which sometimes impact on my thrive state!!

For me the takeaway was having a clear idea about what you want to do and when you can’t find a way not to let yourself corrode with disappointment. Keep practicing for the day you can. You’re building resilient foundations just quietly. Brilliant.
